Who is the Southern Maryland ChapterThe Southern Maryland Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America was organized in June of 1958, at that time we were known as the Charles County Chapter. Since then, our chapter has been involved in most of the important conservation and environmental issues that effect Southern Maryland. We have a long history of offering youths outdoor education and activities through our fishing derbies, hunter education, wildlife food plot, and scholarship programs. Our home was formerly in Hughesville where many members devoted much time and energy to a catering business in order to raise funds for projects. In 1990, the chapter purchased a beautiful 141 acre farm in Waldorf that includes approximately 60 acres of the Zekiah and Jordan swamps. Our goal with this purchase was to protect a portion of the swamp while we continued to grow. In 1998, we sold our facility in Hughesville in order to fund the building of the Outdoor Education Center. This has become our new home. It contains a pond, campfire ring, observation boardwalk through the swamp, and many other amenities. Please take some time to look around our site and see how we are fighting to keep our environment clean.
